Description

Enjoy Orvis-Endorsed lodging at the Xflats on your saltwater fly fishing adventure in Mexico. The Xflats is based around the enjoyment and protection of a stunningly beautiful environment and community. Set in the tiny ‘blast-from-the-past’ town of Xcalak, it has only 350 residents. Xcalak has a charm and peacefulness that is undeniable. The life beneath the water is far busier and more active than what you will find on land. What you will find in the village is an extremely safe and welcoming vibe. The locals have accepted fly fishing and its economic health as a welcome replacement for sustenance fishing. The ownership, guides, staff, and local leaders are dedicated to preserving the amazing reef and bay flats for a long future of enjoyment.

The Xflats uses a two-guides-on-each-boat system to add extra eyes and knowledge when chasing the always clever fish of the flats. Our guides range from 22 years to 8 years of guided fly fishing experience. The passion for fly fishing runs deep at the lodge with weekly fly-tying and knot competitions to educate, learn from, and entertain the guests in the evenings after fishing. The lodge owner, Jesse Colten, runs the business with his brother Danny, and that family appreciation extends to the local employment, where many of the on-site staff members are related to each other and the guides. The Xflats pairs an authentic experience of fishing the Mayan coast with the enjoyable comforts of a tropical vacation.
