Description

Established in 1980, Chris Jolly Outdoors is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most experienced fly fishing guide services and outfitters, plus we’re located in one of the world’s premier wild trout fisheries.

The Central North Island of New Zealand is unique, due to its outstanding fly fishing opportunities year-round. The winter spawning runs of rainbow trout in the Taupo fishery have been legendary since the early 1900’s. Zane Grey referred to this area and New Zealand as the “Anglers’ Eldorado.”

The autumn, winter, and spring months provide opportunities to nymph and streamer fish for rainbow and brown trout in at least eight rivers and streams—all located within a 45-minute drive from the township of Taupo. The average winter day in Taupo ranges from 55 to 58 degrees F.

The spring, summer, and autumn open up our backcountry waters that close for the spawning season. Check off your fly fishing wish list with dry fly and nymph fishing on isolated mountain rivers and streams for rainbows and browns.

These rivers and streams are accessed via helicopter and whitewater rafts, with multi-day backcountry options.
